Kava is a drink made from the root of the Piper methysticum plant, grown across the Pacific Islands. For centuries it has been prepared by grinding the root, steeping it in water, and sharing it from a communal bowl. At The Social Blend we serve kava from Fiji and Vanuatu, prepared fresh, poured by the shell.
How it tastes. Earthy and a little peppery, with a light tingle on the tongue. Most people chase it with a slice of pineapple or a sip of something sweet. Our kavatenders will pour you a single shell to start.
How to order. Ask for a single, double, or triple. A single is about four ounces. Say "bula" before you drink; it's the toast.
What is K-Tea? K-Tea is our botanical tea, served hot or iced in red, green, or white varieties. It is a separate plant from kava with its own flavor. It's $3 for 24 ounces every day. Ask the team which one fits the mood you're going for.
Sensible notes. Kava and K-Tea are not alcohol and we do not serve them as substitutes for medical advice. Do not mix them with alcohol or medication without talking to a doctor, and do not drive if you feel drowsy. If you are pregnant, nursing, or have a liver condition, talk to a doctor first. Start small on your first visit.
Beyond the shell. If kava isn't your thing, we still have you: smoothies, açaí bowls, coffee, mushroom coffee, ginger shots, hookah, and a lunch menu. Come for the room and the people; the kava is optional.
